Important legislation came into effect April of 2004, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) officials no longer deal with any fee-charging representative presenting new applications who is not a member of a Provincial or Territorial Law Society, the Chambre des Notaries du Québec or registered with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (CSIC).
This legislation means that no consultant or lawyer is authorized to file an immigration application on behalf of their clients to any Canadian Visa Office, either inside of Canada or at a Visa Post abroad, unless they are members of one of the above societies.
